Russia’s Trade with Finland

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Finland totaled $3,348,042,212, up 20.57% ($571,208,494) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Finland in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $2,196,441,925, up 7.26% ($148,711,516) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Finland in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $1,151,600,287, up 57.95% ($422,496,978) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Finland in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $1,044,841,638, a 20.76% decrease ($273,785,462) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Finland was Russia’s 15th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.0031% of Russia’s total trade (down from 2.0378% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Finland was Russia’s 15th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 12th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.1353% of Russia’s total exports (down from 2.4425% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Finland was Russia’s 13th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 17th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.7915% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.3906% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Finland

The major share of Russian exports to Finland in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 55.14% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (60.37% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 23.49% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (20.02% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.30% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (10.03% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.31% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (5.85% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.49% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (2.41% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $44,832,795;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $35,179,130;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $24,866,373;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $17,562,578;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $13,096,065.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Finland in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $59,988,870;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $7,362,733;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $6,840,479.

Russia’s Imports from Finland
