Russia’s Trade with New Zealand

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with New Zealand was $40,276,752, down 60.13% ($60,751,086) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $2,085,369, down 94.26% ($34,219,798) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $38,191,383, down 40.99% ($26,531,288) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $36,106,014, a 27.06% increase ($7,688,510) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

New Zealand was Russia’s 106th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 85th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0241% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0741% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

New Zealand was Russia’s 147th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 91st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0020% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0433% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

New Zealand was Russia’s 77th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 65th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0594% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1234% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to New Zealand

The major share of Russian exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 27.36% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (2.25% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 26.72% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (0.24% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 12.72% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (1.17% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.58% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (0.52% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 10.69% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (0.51% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.57% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (2.70% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.01% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (92.29% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $201,520;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $93,573;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $63,567;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $44,445;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $35,633;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $28,326;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $24,313;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $16,614;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $10,879;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $7,311.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $33,499,927;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $843,534;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $362,603;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $119,938;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $118,845;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $87,337;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $38,574;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $27,084;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $25,801;

The major share of Russian imports from New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 78.89% of Russia’s total imports from New Zealand (95.08% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.92% of Russia’s total imports from New Zealand (2.69% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.04% of Russia’s total imports from New Zealand (1.25% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
