Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua totaled $10,969,901, up 454.64% ($8,992,055) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $7,906,555, up 1,145.14% ($7,271,564) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $3,063,346, up 128.12% ($1,720,491) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Nicaragua went from a deficit of $707,864 in the 4th quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $4,843,209 in the 4th quarter of 2017.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 133rd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 155th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0066% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0015% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 121st largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 158th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0077% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0008% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 113th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 124th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0048% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0026% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 80.66% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.03% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (90.14% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.26% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (6.39% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.79% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (0.48% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.58% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (2.37% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $520,057;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $409,308;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $107,517;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $89,248;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $57,110;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $31,875;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $26,101.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $436,750.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.73% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (96.86% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.93% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (2.63% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $1,160,993;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $569,068;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $108,748;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $18,084.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $149,427.
