Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $130,935,271, down 22.55% ($38,112,207) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $121,281,920, down 26.09% ($42,809,535) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $9,653,351, up 94.78% ($4,697,328) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $111,628,569, a 29.85% decrease ($47,506,863) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Nigeria was Russia’s 82nd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 71st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0783% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1241% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 70th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 63rd in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1179% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1957% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 97th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 107th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0150% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0095% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 75.10% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (47.36% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.43% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (8.45% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.48% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (3.42% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.64% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (0.99% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.29% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (0.16% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.06% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (3.83% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $13,777,350;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $3,341,847;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,441,384;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,559,228;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $746,964;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $467,836;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $387,421;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $372,185.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $6,124,512;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $546,968.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.52% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (98.34% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.48% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (1.53% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
