Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka totaled $111,366,999, up 18.43% ($17,334,216) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $25,933,399, up 49.38% ($8,572,525) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $85,433,600, up 11.43% ($8,761,691) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $59,500,201, a 0.32% increase ($189,166) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 83rd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 87th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0666% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0690% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 102nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 105th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0252% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0207% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 63rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 62nd in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1329% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1462% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 63.37% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (53.97% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 14.59% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (15.03% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.88% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.74% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.57% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (18.94% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $6,807,557;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,361,012;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,084,691;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $751,611;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $227,588;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $226,627.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $1,974,482;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $128,875.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 59.70% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (59.13% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 33.05% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (33.96% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.22% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (5.62% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.36% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (0.93% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
