Russia’s Trade with Switzerland

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Switzerland totaled $1,900,761,431, up 22.36% ($347,302,452) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Switzerland in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $1,272,599,446, up 24.52% ($250,567,120) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Switzerland in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $628,161,985, up 18.20% ($96,735,332) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Switzerland in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $644,437,461, a 31.36% increase ($153,831,788) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Switzerland was Russia’s 20th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.1372% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.1400% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Switzerland was Russia’s 20th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 21st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.2372% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.2191% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Switzerland was Russia’s 25th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 24th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9772% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.0136% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Switzerland

The major share of Russian exports to Switzerland in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 44.22% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (27.38% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 27.71% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (49.52% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 21.29% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (19.16% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.10% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (0.80% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.54% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (2.10% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $75,067,928;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $47,328,327;
  • Nickel and articles thereof (HS code 75) - an increase of $27,203,231;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $6,589,659.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Switzerland in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $155,386,741;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $23,018,808;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $14,551,300.

Russia’s Imports from Switzerland

The major share of Russian imports from Switzerland in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 33.79% of Russia’s total imports from Switzerland (38.76% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
