Russia’s Trade with Tajikistan

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Tajikistan was $187,304,954, down 13.73% ($29,800,013) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $171,435,802, down 18.52% ($38,974,677) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $15,869,152, up 137.05% ($9,174,664) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $155,566,650, a 23.64% decrease ($48,149,341) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Tajikistan was Russia’s 74th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 66th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1121% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1593% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 64th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 52nd in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1667% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2510% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 91st largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 100th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0247% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0128% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Tajikistan

The major share of Russian exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 25.72% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (26.34% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.51% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (29.05% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.68% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (15.05% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.05% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (10.97% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.68% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (8.00% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.29% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (7.44% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $943,309;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $829,387;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $740,102;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $528,726.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $9,311,581;

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $2,856,204;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,410,741;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,387,579;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $634,272;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - a decrease of $547,231;
