Russia’s Trade with Thailand

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Thailand totaled $812,143,670, up 53.52% ($283,133,875) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $206,701,406, up 18.41% ($32,144,147) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $605,442,264, up 70.81% ($250,989,728) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $398,740,858, a 121.65% increase ($218,845,581) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Thailand was Russia’s 40th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 45th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4859% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3882% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Thailand was Russia’s 62nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 59th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2009% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2082% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Thailand was Russia’s 27th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 30th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9419% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.6760% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Thailand

The major share of Russian exports to Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 73.85% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (57.74% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.78% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (23.33% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.23% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (8.49% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.30% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (6.09% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.48% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (2.99% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.07% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (0.40% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $48,997,463;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $2,852,513;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $2,619,224;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,596,900;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,071,624;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,053,596;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,029,564;
  • Lead and articles thereof (HS code 78) - an increase of $798,972;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $700,584.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $19,819,884;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,190,446;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $3,156,952;
  • Products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 05) - a decrease of $1,022,474;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $884,637.

Russia’s Imports from Thailand

The major share of Russian imports from Thailand in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 72.01% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (56.31% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.15% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (20.16% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.72% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (10.71% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 2.94% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (4.57% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
