Russia’s Trade with Turkmenistan

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Turkmenistan was $135,296,365, down 0.36% ($493,844) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $114,100,221, up 4.64% ($5,059,474) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Turkmenistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $21,196,144, down 20.76% ($5,553,318) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Turkmenistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $92,904,077, a 12.90% increase ($10,612,792) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 81st largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 77th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0809% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0996% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 72nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 70th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1109% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1301% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 89th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 81st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0330% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0510% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Turkmenistan

The major share of Russian exports to Turkmenistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 41.67% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (22.68% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 25.36% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (27.55% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.26% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (15.96% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.27% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (8.66% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.74% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (12.03% in the 4th quarter of 2016);

  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $1,142,232;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $961,906;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $477,768;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $402,814.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 36.07% of Russia’s total imports from Turkmenistan (28.14% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.83% of Russia’s total imports from Turkmenistan (1.62% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.25% of Russia’s total imports from Turkmenistan (3.71% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
