Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Vietnam totaled $1,752,418,135, up 41.75% ($516,185,200) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $792,925,656, up 34.10% ($201,633,224) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $959,492,479, up 48.77% ($314,551,976) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $166,566,823, a 210.48% increase ($112,918,752) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Vietnam was Russia’s 21st largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 25th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.0484% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.9072% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Vietnam was Russia’s 30th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 32nd in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7708% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.7053% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Vietnam was Russia’s 17th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 21st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.4927% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.2301% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 48.10% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (62.97% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 15.35% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (7.62% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.14% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (1.20% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.86% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (10.65% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.77% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (5.08% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.42% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (1.67% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $97,534,950;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $72,102,323;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $50,072,938;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $24,692,914;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $4,141,991;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $4,096,794;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $3,424,248;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,801,154.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $24,106,019;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $21,530,335;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $8,475,777;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $5,156,986;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $3,367,688;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $3,292,116;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $2,870,366;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,480,274.
