Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In 2017, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $890,825,815, up 5.17% ($43,797,804) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in 2017 totaled $211,389,373, up 29.68% ($48,385,329) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in 2017 were $679,436,442, down 0.67% ($4,587,525) from 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in 2017 was $468,047,069, a 10.17% decrease ($52,972,854) over 2016.

Argentina was Russia’s 67th largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 64th in 2016), accounting for 0.1525% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1811% in 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 83rd largest export market in 2017 (up from 88th in 2016), accounting for 0.0592% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0571% in 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in 2017 (down from 41st in 2016), accounting for 0.2994% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3753% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 62.49% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (39.48% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 25.66% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (48.88% in 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.31% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.52% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.93% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.55% in 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.65% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.31% in 2016).

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,676,305;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,631,043;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,342,042;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $1,043,873;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $809,078;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $641,386.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $16,377,261;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $13,305,671;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,651,250;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $635,597.
