Russia’s Trade with Chile

In 2017, Russia’s trade with Chile totaled $903,252,826, up 40.71% ($261,313,454) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Chile in 2017 totaled $79,117,617, up 81.76% ($35,589,783) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Chile in 2017 totaled $824,135,209, up 37.72% ($225,723,671) from 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in 2017 was $745,017,592, a 34.27% increase ($190,133,888) over 2016.

Chile was Russia’s 66th largest trading partner in 2017 (up from 71st in 2016), accounting for 0.1547% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1372% in 2016).

Chile was Russia’s 101st largest export market in 2017 (up from 115th in 2016), accounting for 0.0222% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0152% in 2016).

Chile was Russia’s 43rd largest supplier in 2017 (up from 46th in 2016), accounting for 0.3631% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3283% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 36.61% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (24.58% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 31.51% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (35.15% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.21% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (15.35% in 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.02% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (4.19% in 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.50% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (4.34% in 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.35% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (13.58% in 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.13% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (2.12% in 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $18,359,933;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,973,629;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $3,956,207;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,270,731;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,279,124;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,962,858;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $1,483,213;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,399,761;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,360,171;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $3,667,114;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,437,292.
