Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In 2017, Russia’s trade with Iceland was $37,714,289, down 26.88% ($13,867,567) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2017 were $14,360,898, down 53.81% ($16,727,541) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2017 totaled $23,353,391, up 13.96% ($2,859,974) from 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Iceland went from a surplus of $10,595,022 in 2016, to a deficit of $8,992,493 in 2017.

Iceland was Russia’s 134th largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 127th in 2016), accounting for 0.0065% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0110% in 2016).

Iceland was Russia’s 140th largest export market in 2017 (down from 122nd in 2016), accounting for 0.0040% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0109% in 2016).

Iceland was Russia’s 102nd largest supplier in 2017 (up from 103rd in 2016), accounting for 0.0103% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0112% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 25.89% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (11.15% in 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.66% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (11.30% in 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 22.95% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (2.35% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 12.20% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (4.06% in 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.42% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (4.02% in 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.17% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (5.26% in 2016);

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $492,342;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $422,637;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $336,658;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $258,318;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $123,080;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $80,489;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $76,629;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $67,155.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $826,021;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $731,553;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $451,105;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $307,630;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $251,394;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $220,818;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $157,574;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - a decrease of $78,198.

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 31.33% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (35.11% in 2016);
