Russia’s Trade with Norway

In 2017, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $1,422,447,179, up 1.43% ($20,022,865) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Norway in 2017 totaled $776,125,825, up 5.32% ($39,207,721) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Norway in 2017 were $646,321,354, down 2.88% ($19,184,856) from 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in 2017 was $129,804,471, a 81.77% increase ($58,392,577) over 2016.

Norway was Russia’s 57th largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 49th in 2016), accounting for 0.2435% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2998% in 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 55th largest export market in 2017 (down from 53rd in 2016), accounting for 0.2174% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2581% in 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 47th largest supplier in 2017 (down from 43rd in 2016), accounting for 0.2848% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3651% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 47.63% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (48.04% in 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 30.52% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (30.52% in 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.17% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (8.03% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.24% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (5.29% in 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.80% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (3.28% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.06% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.94% in 2016).

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $21,560,667;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $7,611,561;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,376,136;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $3,383,860;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $2,561,441.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $9,033,065;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $7,012,750;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $5,094,194;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $3,746,132.
