In 2017, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka totaled $398,664,789, up 9.81% ($35,621,563) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in 2017 totaled $85,043,793, up 5.38% ($4,341,550) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in 2017 totaled $313,620,996, up 11.08% ($31,280,013) from 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in 2017 was $228,577,203, a 13.36% increase ($26,938,463) over 2016.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 84th largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 81st in 2016), accounting for 0.0683% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0776% in 2016).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 99th largest export market in 2017 (down from 95th in 2016), accounting for 0.0238% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0283% in 2016).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 64th largest supplier in 2017 (down from 61st in 2016), accounting for 0.1382% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1549% in 2016).

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 67.66% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (49.71% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.68% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (15.49% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.21% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (4.61% in 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.70% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (27.39% in 2016);

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,130,464.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $11,045,888;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $6,210,121;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $1,829,749;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,112,490;
