Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In 2017, Russia’s trade with Sweden totaled $4,043,577,740, up 3.90% ($151,737,289) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in 2017 were $1,933,802,474, down 13.04% ($290,000,960) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in 2017 totaled $2,109,775,266, up 26.48% ($441,738,249) from 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Sweden went from a surplus of $555,766,417 in 2016, to a deficit of $175,972,792 in 2017.

Sweden was Russia’s 31st largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 28th in 2016), accounting for 0.6923% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.8320% in 2016).

Sweden was Russia’s 37th largest export market in 2017 (down from 29th in 2016), accounting for 0.5416% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.7789% in 2016).

Sweden was Russia’s 25th largest supplier in 2017 (just as in 2016), accounting for 0.9296% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.9152% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 70.59% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (68.44% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 19.82% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (22.55% in 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.91% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.61% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.61% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.14% in 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.29% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (1.01% in 2016);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $9,972,042.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $157,441,002;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $139,688,546;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $37,594,583;
