Russia’s Trade with the US

In 2017, Russia’s trade with the US totaled $23,198,475,027, up 14.41% ($2,921,708,268) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to the US in 2017 totaled $10,699,964,760, up 14.39% ($1,346,358,039) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from the US in 2017 totaled $12,498,510,267, up 14.42% ($1,575,350,229) from 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with the US in 2017 was $1,798,545,507, a 14.59% increase ($228,992,190) over 2016.

The US was Russia’s 6th largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 5th in 2016), accounting for 3.9720% of Russia’s total trade (down from 4.3349% in 2016).

The US was Russia’s 10th largest export market in 2017 (just as in 2016), accounting for 2.9965% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.2763% in 2016).

The US was Russia’s 3rd largest supplier in 2017 (just as in 2016), accounting for 5.5068% of Russia’s total imports (down from 5.9931% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 36.03% of Russia’s total exports to the US (29.24% in 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 31.97% of Russia’s total exports to the US (35.60% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.85% of Russia’s total exports to the US (17.31% in 2016);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 7.68% of Russia’s total exports to the US (6.32% in 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.32% of Russia’s total exports to the US (5.08% in 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.80% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.63% in 2016).
