Russia’s Trade with Zimbabwe

In 2017, Russia’s trade with Zimbabwe was $53,070,136, down 20.81% ($13,944,504) from 2016.

Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in 2017 were $2,482,226, down 71.14% ($6,117,779) from 2016.

Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in 2017 were $50,587,910, down 13.40% ($7,826,725) from 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Zimbabwe in 2017 was $48,105,684, a 3.43% decrease ($1,708,946) over 2016.

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 129th largest trading partner in 2017 (down from 120th in 2016), accounting for 0.0091% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0143% in 2016).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 162nd largest export market in 2017 (down from 145th in 2016), accounting for 0.0007% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0030% in 2016).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 91st largest supplier in 2017 (down from 89th in 2016), accounting for 0.0223% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0320% in 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian exports to Zimbabwe in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 52.85% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.56% in 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.53% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.15% in 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 22.13% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (98.74% in 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.48% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.47% in 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $536,507;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $102,170;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $94,031;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $20,183;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $15,316.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $8,108,407;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $47,674;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - a decrease of $29,783;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $13,096.

Russia’s Imports from Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian imports from Zimbabwe in 2017 (and in 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.44% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (99.94% in 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $1,764,115;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $718,551;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $226,320;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $210,276.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in 2017 over 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
