Russia’s Trade with Algeria

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Algeria totaled $688,451,429, up 24.81% ($136,849,098) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $685,395,996, up 24.97% ($136,935,393) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $3,055,433, down 2.75% ($86,295) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $682,340,563, a 25.13% increase ($137,021,688) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Algeria was Russia’s 39th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 41st in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4367% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4291% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Algeria was Russia’s 34th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.6653% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.6581% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Algeria was Russia’s 114th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 113th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0056% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0069% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Algeria

The major share of Russian exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 12.86% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (23.41% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.59% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (11.88% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.68% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (13.61% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.62% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (5.57% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.77% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (1.38% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $19,379,759;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $10,740,256;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $4,343,815;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,345,845.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $55,431,681;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $17,734,695;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $8,545,632;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $5,711,495;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $5,028,327;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,567,596;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $2,370,020;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $2,352,493.

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
