Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $164,268,638, up 5.18% ($8,085,765) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $29,579,513, down 3.53% ($1,083,661) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $134,689,125, up 7.31% ($9,169,426) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $105,109,612, a 10.81% increase ($10,253,087) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Argentina was Russia’s 73rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 71st in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1042% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1215% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Argentina was Russia’s 93rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 90th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0287% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0368% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Argentina was Russia’s 50th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 45th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2466% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2776% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 53.18% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (64.45% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 27.76% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (11.67% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.38% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.26% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.18% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.58% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.30% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (14.88% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $3,099,885;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,332,311;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $830,900;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $790,853;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $271,696;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $270,585;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $254,306;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $204,703;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $160,580;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $139,168.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $4,029,331;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $3,342,241;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $738,118;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $285,382;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $233,136.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 89.78% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (88.13% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.38% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (8.09% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.01% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (2.92% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $5,808,334;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $2,413,646;
  • Albuminoidal substances; modified starches; glues; enzymes (HS code 35) - a decrease of $1,164,429;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $999,607;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $570,003;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $428,822.
