Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,081,303,204, up 5.20% ($53,480,475) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $494,897,868, up 27.51% ($106,786,167) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $586,405,336, down 8.33% ($53,305,692) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $91,507,468, a 63.63% decrease ($160,091,859) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Brazil was Russia’s 33rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 26th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.6860% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.7995% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Brazil was Russia’s 38th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 37th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4804% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4657% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Brazil was Russia’s 22nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 18th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 1.0738% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.4148% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 69.52% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (76.33% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.18% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (9.34% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.79% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (4.53% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.08% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (8.75% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $66,145,128;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $43,745,113;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $22,208,468;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $5,126,130;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,474,939;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $2,244,588.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $22,329,097;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $6,358,716;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $3,116,932;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,130,540.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 57.63% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (81.02% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 16.43% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (6.28% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.71% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (4.38% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.18% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.54% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
