Russia’s Trade with Hungary

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Hungary totaled $1,498,936,403, up 21.97% ($270,023,731) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $987,564,202, up 35.11% ($256,615,374) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $511,372,201, up 2.69% ($13,408,357) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $476,192,001, a 104.39% increase ($243,207,017) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Hungary was Russia’s 22nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 24th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.9509% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.9560% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Hungary was Russia’s 25th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 28th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.9586% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.8771% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Hungary was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 23rd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.9364% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.1013% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Hungary

The major share of Russian exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 79.25% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (79.18% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.89% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (7.99% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.02% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (10.63% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $212,913,888;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $47,842,271;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $5,325,344;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,069,303.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $9,036,648;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $7,241,994.

Russia’s Imports from Hungary

The major share of Russian imports from Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 34.71% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (34.84% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 30.34% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (35.66% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.61% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (15.22% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.39% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (2.15% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
