Russia’s Trade with New Zealand

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with New Zealand was $34,479,964, down 47.93% ($31,740,067) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $2,164,647, up 14.00% ($265,875) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from New Zealand in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $32,315,317, down 49.76% ($32,005,942) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with New Zealand in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $30,150,670, a 51.70% decrease ($32,271,817) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

New Zealand was Russia’s 109th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 91st in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0219% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0515% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

New Zealand was Russia’s 140th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 130th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0021% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0023% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

New Zealand was Russia’s 80th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0592% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1423% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The major share of Russian exports to New Zealand in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 19.58% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (31.86% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.04% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (24.32% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.21% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (7.76% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.50% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (9.37% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.15% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (3.73% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $27,140;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $24,029;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $13,146;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $8,087.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $253,912;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $172,827;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $20,855;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $8,052;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $7,860;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $7,405.

Russia’s Imports from New Zealand

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.33% of Russia’s total imports from New Zealand (3.51% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.69% of Russia’s total imports from New Zealand (1.82% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
