Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua was $6,120,072, down 34.97% ($3,291,520) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $963,569, down 87.48% ($6,733,310) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $5,156,503, up 200.72% ($3,441,790) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Nicaragua went from a surplus of $5,982,166 in the 1st quarter of 2017, to a deficit of $4,192,934 in the 1st quarter of 2018.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 140th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 129th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0039% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0073% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 152nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 116th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0009% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0092% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 103rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 117th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0094% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0038% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 57.42% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (4.12% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 33.66% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (4.44% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.06% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (0.53% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (88.55% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $270,724;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $37,204;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $25,258;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $17,428.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $6,543,378;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $288,806;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $271,930;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $150,000;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $146,575;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $72,861;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $34,736;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $31,612.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.97% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (95.92% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.90% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (3.63% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $2,371,845;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $585,410;

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $34,281;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - a decrease of $16,573.
