Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Pakistan totaled $326,419,792, up 113.50% ($173,528,173) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $211,153,007, up 330.50% ($162,105,177) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $115,266,785, up 11.00% ($11,422,996) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Pakistan went from a deficit of $54,795,959 in the 1st quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $95,886,222 in the 1st quarter of 2018.

Pakistan was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 72nd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2071% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1189% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Pakistan was Russia’s 58th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 83rd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2050% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0589% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Pakistan was Russia’s 57th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 53rd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2111% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2297% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.67% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (26.46% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 9.21% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (18.38% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.76% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (18.32% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.41% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (21.61% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.38% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (13.72% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.28% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (1.26% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $14,698,162;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $10,516,518;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $3,517,956;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $2,649,197;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,346,739;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,562,084;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,013,835;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $817,555;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $787,508;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $733,134.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,122,483;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,078,582;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $834,808.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

The major share of Russian imports from Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 47.69% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (46.16% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 39.88% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (42.17% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.54% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (2.26% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.26% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (0.62% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $1,091,375;
  • Articles of leather; saddlery and harness; travel goods, handbags and similar containers; articles of animal gut (other than silkworm gut) (HS code 42) - an increase of $861,426;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $793,577;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $613,516;
  • Man-made staple fibers (HS code 55) - an increase of $515,501;
