Russia’s Trade with Puerto Rico

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Puerto Rico was $38,739,009, down 21.67% ($10,719,356) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $1,514,707, down 87.32% ($10,434,042) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $37,224,302, down 0.76% ($285,314) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $35,709,595, a 39.70% increase ($10,148,728) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Puerto Rico was Russia’s 104th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0246% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0385% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Puerto Rico was Russia’s 146th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 108th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0015% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0143% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Puerto Rico was Russia’s 77th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 74th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0682% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0830% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Puerto Rico

The major share of Russian exports to Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 92.74% of Russia’s total exports to Puerto Rico (5.25% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.75% of Russia’s total exports to Puerto Rico (94.63% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $776,747;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $71,934;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $38,080.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $11,306,647;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $12,729.

Russia’s Imports from Puerto Rico

The major share of Russian imports from Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 98.68% of Russia’s total imports from Puerto Rico (97.29% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.73% of Russia’s total imports from Puerto Rico (2.38% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $609,810;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $148,478.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Puerto Rico in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $641,097;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $416,389.
