Russia’s Trade with Tanzania

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Tanzania totaled $43,811,462, up 26.01% ($9,044,141) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $40,865,823, up 70.02% ($16,829,861) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $2,945,639, down 72.55% ($7,785,720) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $37,920,184, a 185.02% increase ($24,615,581) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Tanzania was Russia’s 101st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 104th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0278% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0270% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Tanzania was Russia’s 86th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 93rd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0397% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0288% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Tanzania was Russia’s 115th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 92nd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0054% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0237% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Tanzania

The major share of Russian exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 91.88% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (84.48% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.39% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (10.59% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.71% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (1.41% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.48% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.51% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (3.30% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $17,328,676;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $595,951;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $434,475;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $366,273.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,244,580;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $572,729.

The major share of Russian imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $1,788,525;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $797,014.
