Russia’s Trade with Venezuela

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Venezuela totaled $21,845,237, up 60.29% ($8,216,324) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $21,551,563, up 59.29% ($8,021,621) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $293,674, up 196.73% ($194,703) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $21,257,889, a 58.28% increase ($7,826,918) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Venezuela was Russia’s 118th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 121st in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0139% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0106% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Venezuela was Russia’s 103rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 107th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0209% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0162% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Venezuela was Russia’s 143rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 147th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0005% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0002% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Venezuela

The major share of Russian exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 70.06% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (0.23% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.05% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (29.65% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 13.33% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (62.83% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (1.62% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $15,073,842;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $86,222.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $3,805,018;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,313,875;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $876,320;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $749,268;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $537,780.

Russia’s Imports from Venezuela

The major share of Russian imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.59% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (86.46% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.06% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (13.37% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $194,168;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $12,732.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $10,902;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $1,734.
