Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Canada was $322,557,886, down 29.73% ($136,460,871) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $121,266,868, down 12.90% ($17,958,168) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $201,291,018, down 37.06% ($118,502,703) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $80,024,150, a 55.68% decrease ($100,544,535) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Canada was Russia’s 61st largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 47th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1887% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3284% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Canada was Russia’s 73rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 62nd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1100% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1658% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Canada was Russia’s 45th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 33rd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3316% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.5733% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 39.91% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (50.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 33.47% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (14.54% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.89% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (17.31% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.25% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (4.78% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.09% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (5.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,043,877;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $785,212;
