Russia’s Trade with Cuba

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Cuba was $51,498,440, down 32.48% ($24,775,882) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $49,003,138, down 33.29% ($24,450,123) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $2,495,302, down 11.55% ($325,759) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $46,507,836, a 34.15% decrease ($24,124,364) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Cuba was Russia’s 102nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 91st in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0301% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0546% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Cuba was Russia’s 87th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 77th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0445% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0875% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Cuba was Russia’s 118th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 112th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0041% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0051% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Cuba

The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 62.00% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (50.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 24.37% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (0.01% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.81% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (2.09% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.01% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (4.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.85% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (2.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.19% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (36.61% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $11,470,501;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,891,696;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,585,693;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $815,144;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $415,150;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $410,230.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $26,303,097;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $6,997,866;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,727,636;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $1,446,505;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $649,909;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $521,838;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $509,805;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $498,053;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $482,001;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $392,797;
  • Tin and articles thereof (HS code 80) - a decrease of $226,415;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $222,649.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.00% of Russia’s total imports from Cuba (20.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.00% of Russia’s total imports from Cuba (4.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).
