Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $110,982,094, up 41.81% ($32,719,531) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $79,277,328, up 89.61% ($37,465,571) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $31,704,766, down 13.02% ($4,746,040) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $47,572,562, a 787.39% increase ($42,211,611) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Kenya was Russia’s 82nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 90th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0649% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0560% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 80th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 89th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0719% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0498% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 82nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 75th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0522% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0653% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 69.67% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (44.05% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.79% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (29.27% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.62% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (6.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.04% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (1.63% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.92% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (18.37% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $36,354,144;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,290,482;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $329,117.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $6,963,566;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,014,361;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $848,050.

Russia’s Imports from Kenya

The major share of Russian imports from Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $2,335,434;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $109,788.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Live trees and other plants; bulbs, roots and the like; cut flowers and ornamental foliage (HS code 06) - a decrease of $3,278,016;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $2,709,749;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $1,274,864.
