Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $655,684,243, up 23.41% ($124,389,044) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $264,749,612, up 34.30% ($67,612,425) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $390,934,631, up 16.99% ($56,776,619) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $126,185,019, a 7.91% decrease ($10,835,806) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Malaysia was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 44th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3836% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3802% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Malaysia was Russia’s 52nd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 50th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2402% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2348% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Malaysia was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 32nd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.6440% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5990% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 75.85% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (51.77% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.64% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (38.32% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.99% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.84% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.17% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.88% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.58% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (3.54% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $3,008,960;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,682,143;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $1,914,180;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $1,237,478.

Russia’s Imports from Malaysia
