Russia’s Trade with Malta

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Malta totaled $1,291,118,334, up 108.18% ($670,916,515) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $1,281,276,888, up 108.42% ($666,518,241) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $9,841,446, up 80.80% ($4,398,274) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $1,271,435,442, a 108.67% increase ($662,119,967) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Malta was Russia’s 30th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 41st in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.7554% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4438% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Malta was Russia’s 19th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 29th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 1.1626% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.7321% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Malta was Russia’s 96th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 103rd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0162% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0098% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The major share of Russian exports to Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

Russia’s Imports from Malta

The major share of Russian imports from Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 52.62% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (24.14% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 46.29% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (74.65% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $3,586,285;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $708,026;

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $36,624;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $31,877.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Malta in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $624,071;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $31,061.
