Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka totaled $109,975,902, up 17.93% ($16,718,418) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $28,939,372, up 169.96% ($18,219,315) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $81,036,530, down 1.82% ($1,500,897) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $52,097,158, a 27.46% decrease ($19,720,212) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 83rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 87th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0643% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0667% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 99th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 114th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0263% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0128% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 62nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1335% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1480% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 52.19% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (0.56% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 16.36% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (47.75% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.10% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (19.91% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.50% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (20.14% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.62% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (9.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.46% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (1.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $14,969,514;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $924,641;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $827,363;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $633,652;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $624,056;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $345,106;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $245,266;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $235,360;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $224,000;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $131,509.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $1,221,158.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 56.42% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (59.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 35.10% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (33.69% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.64% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (5.60% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.63% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (0.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $351,586.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $3,731,667;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $547,662.
