Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Sweden totaled $1,525,587,239, up 72.85% ($642,989,520) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $903,123,955, up 193.84% ($595,773,077) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $622,463,284, up 8.21% ($47,216,443) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Sweden went from a deficit of $267,895,963 in the 2nd quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $280,660,671 in the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Sweden was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 32nd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.8926% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6315% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Sweden was Russia’s 28th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.8195% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3660% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Sweden was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 22nd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 1.0253% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.0312% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 79.43% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (61.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.84% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (23.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.19% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (4.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.06% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (3.21% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.05% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (1.55% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.74% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $527,128,735;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $30,869,919;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $22,457,874;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $7,453,449;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $4,677,340;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $3,865,478;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,335,434.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $4,543,711;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - a decrease of $3,976,286.
