Russia’s Trade with Thailand

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Thailand totaled $575,036,597, up 12.04% ($61,792,109) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $131,099,905, down 1.34% ($1,781,096) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $443,936,692, up 16.71% ($63,573,205) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $312,836,787, a 26.41% increase ($65,354,301) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Thailand was Russia’s 45th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3365% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3672% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Thailand was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 63rd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1190% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1582% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Thailand was Russia’s 28th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 29th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.7313% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.6818% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Thailand

The major share of Russian exports to Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 28.72% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (19.00% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.82% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (14.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 14.43% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (59.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.46% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (2.78% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.64% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (0.71% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $659,086;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $633,516;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $59,718,220;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,600,554;
  • Products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 05) - a decrease of $2,291,124;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $522,100.
