Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with the US totaled $6,903,862,895, up 15.94% ($949,208,391) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $2,884,429,797, up 11.89% ($306,484,332) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $4,019,433,098, up 19.03% ($642,724,059) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with the US in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $1,135,003,301, a 42.10% increase ($336,239,727) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

The US was Russia’s 5th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 6th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 4.0394% of Russia’s total trade (down from 4.2607% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The US was Russia’s 12th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 11th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 2.6173% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.0700% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The US was Russia’s 3rd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 6.6209% of Russia’s total imports (up from 6.0531% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 36.41% of Russia’s total exports to the US (27.98% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 28.36% of Russia’s total exports to the US (38.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.39% of Russia’s total exports to the US (14.55% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 11.16% of Russia’s total exports to the US (7.75% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.73% of Russia’s total exports to the US (6.23% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.04% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.81% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $38,407,083;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $12,868,399.
