Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $319,667,139, up 22.29% ($58,275,571) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $116,274,483, up 64.02% ($45,385,581) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $203,392,656, up 6.77% ($12,889,990) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $87,118,173, a 27.17% decrease ($32,495,591) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Argentina was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 62nd in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1858% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1788% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Argentina was Russia’s 73rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 76th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1036% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0830% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Argentina was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3397% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3132% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 83.57% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (55.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.48% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (34.55% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.57% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.87% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (3.08% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.13% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.75% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $57,906,021;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,065,059;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $856,079;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $707,057.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $13,972,169;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $969,442;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $544,709;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $448,842.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 94.84% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (80.91% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.07% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (2.84% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.03% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (16.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $44,131,988;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $4,068,900;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $1,358,134;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $844,072;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $704,917.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $16,317,088;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $7,197,718;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $4,682,344;
  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - a decrease of $4,659,220;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,402,259;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $897,064;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $869,357;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $656,066.
