Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh was $390,441,459, down 18.49% ($88,565,745) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $166,632,960, down 32.39% ($79,829,564) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $223,808,499, down 3.76% ($8,736,181) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Bangladesh went from a surplus of $13,917,844 in the 3rd quarter of 2017, to a deficit of $57,175,539 in the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Bangladesh was Russia’s 51st largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 47th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2269% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3277% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 68th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 51st in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1485% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2887% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 43rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 39th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3738% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3823% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh

The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 70.95% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (43.36% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 16.10% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (0.21% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.95% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (1.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.75% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (30.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.73% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (0.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $23,181,605;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $7,710,679;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $1,828,500;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,636,736;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $1,143,805;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $730,366;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $537,942.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $50,633,159;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $38,183,239;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $12,954,445;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $10,658,839;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $4,986,225;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $1,238,225;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - a decrease of $552,803;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $544,922.
