Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $1,086,552,121, down 18.51% ($246,803,917) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $483,389,034, up 3.77% ($17,545,643) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $603,163,087, down 30.47% ($264,349,560) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $119,774,053, a 70.18% decrease ($281,895,203) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Brazil was Russia’s 33rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 24th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.6315% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.9121% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Brazil was Russia’s 42nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 38th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4308% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.5457% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Brazil was Russia’s 22nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 17th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 1.0074% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.4262% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 84.04% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (69.17% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 9.89% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (22.74% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.37% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (4.16% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.00% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (3.17% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.08% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (0.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $76,850,709;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $4,738,606;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $4,668,850;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $4,363,263;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,869,498;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,583,932.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $62,875,830;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $10,013,186;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $4,604,701;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $1,590,300.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 49.52% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (79.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.48% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (8.69% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.91% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.64% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.14% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).
