Russia’s Trade with Germany

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Germany totaled $14,943,955,201, up 23.78% ($2,870,875,935) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Germany in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $8,364,998,354, up 51.17% ($2,831,555,517) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Germany in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $6,578,956,847, up 0.60% ($39,320,418) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Germany went from a deficit of $1,006,193,592 in the 3rd quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $1,786,041,507 in the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Germany was Russia’s 2nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 8.6847% of Russia’s total trade (up from 8.2587% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Germany was Russia’s 3rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 7.4557% of Russia’s total exports (up from 6.4825% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Germany was Russia’s 2nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 10.9878% of Russia’s total imports (up from 10.7512% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Germany

The major share of Russian exports to Germany in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 84.71% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (84.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.83% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (4.42% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.30% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (2.94% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.26% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (3.32% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 1.64% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (1.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
