Russia’s Trade with Iran

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Iran was $315,028,207, down 26.70% ($114,722,896) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Iran in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $247,242,829, down 36.47% ($141,903,582) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Iran in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $67,785,378, up 66.94% ($27,180,686) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iran in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $179,457,451, a 48.51% decrease ($169,084,268) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Iran was Russia’s 60th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 49th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1831% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2940% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Iran was Russia’s 51st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 40th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2204% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4559% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Iran was Russia’s 63rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 73rd in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1132% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0668% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Iran

The major share of Russian exports to Iran in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 73.12% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (41.57% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 16.41% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (9.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.35% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (17.69% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.35% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (2.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.83% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (27.05% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
