Russia’s Trade with Italy

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Italy totaled $7,084,415,102, up 21.43% ($1,250,088,591) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $4,423,409,910, up 41.22% ($1,291,224,312) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $2,661,005,192, down 1.52% ($41,135,721) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $1,762,404,718, a 309.82% increase ($1,332,360,033) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Italy was Russia’s 6th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 4.1171% of Russia’s total trade (up from 3.9910% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Italy was Russia’s 7th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 3.9426% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.6694% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Italy was Russia’s 5th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 4.4442% of Russia’s total imports (up from 4.4423% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Italy

The major share of Russian exports to Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 87.14% of Russia’s total exports to Italy (86.88% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.84% of Russia’s total exports to Italy (3.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.36% of Russia’s total exports to Italy (1.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to Italy (1.19% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 0.98% of Russia’s total exports to Italy (4.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,133,340,876;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $160,572,041;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $63,366,135.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

Russia’s Imports from Italy

The major share of Russian imports from Italy in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 43.11% of Russia’s total imports from Italy (44.94% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 19.27% of Russia’s total imports from Italy (18.39% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 11.75% of Russia’s total imports from Italy (10.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.60% of Russia’s total imports from Italy (8.82% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.28% of Russia’s total imports from Italy (6.05% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $11,690,865;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $11,397,309.
