Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua was $11,711,268, down 31.17% ($5,304,665) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $6,886,726, down 29.98% ($2,948,231) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $4,824,542, down 32.81% ($2,356,434) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $2,062,184, a 22.30% decrease ($591,797) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 134th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 125th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0068% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0116% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 126th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 116th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0061% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0115% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 106th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 100th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0081% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0118% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 88.13% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (67.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.51% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (20.42% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.51% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.47% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (3.76% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.25% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (8.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $346,476;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $310,629;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $39,016;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $29,338.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,995,636;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $866,443;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $336,715;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $235,715;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $165,939;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $119,866.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.93% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (99.16% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.94% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (0.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $736,525;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $242,831;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $37,776.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $3,265,080;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $73,253;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $39,252.
