Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $262,792,714, up 107.47% ($136,124,564) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $255,403,741, up 116.13% ($137,230,934) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $7,388,973, down 13.02% ($1,106,370) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $248,014,768, a 126.13% increase ($138,337,304) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Nigeria was Russia’s 68th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 78th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1527% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0866% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 50th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 65th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2276% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1384% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 99th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 97th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0123% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0140% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 59.35% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (65.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 36.88% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (28.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.75% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (3.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.81% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.83% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $74,631,038;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $60,265,740;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,151,367;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,054,324;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,032,051;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $981,898.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,059,238;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,674,153.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.14% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (97.53% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.84% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (2.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $41,472;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $23,581.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $1,110,200;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $52,474.
