Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Norway was $408,652,815, down 1.63% ($6,785,168) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $297,911,746, up 34.88% ($77,040,651) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $110,741,069, down 43.08% ($83,825,819) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $187,170,677, a 611.56% increase ($160,866,470) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Norway was Russia’s 50th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 51st in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2375% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2842% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Norway was Russia’s 47th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 53rd in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2655% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2588% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Norway was Russia’s 55th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 43rd in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1850% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3199% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 45.89% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (58.49% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 32.68% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (28.87% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.71% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.39% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.35% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (5.64% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.42% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.13% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.21% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $17,343,538;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $17,144,836;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $6,780,690;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $5,284,022;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $2,969,688;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,733,502;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $2,694,322;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $2,340,396;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $2,265,582;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,016,882;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $1,381,324;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,009,671.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $3,198,265;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $3,193,412;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $1,638,107;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $1,449,905.

Russia’s Imports from Norway

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.23% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (12.57% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
