Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Pakistan totaled $127,294,083, up 12.56% ($14,202,192) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $62,994,750, up 22.12% ($11,411,054) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $64,299,333, up 4.54% ($2,791,138) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $1,304,583, a 86.85% decrease ($8,619,916) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Pakistan was Russia’s 81st largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 79th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0740% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0774% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Pakistan was Russia’s 84th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 89th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0561% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0604% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Pakistan was Russia’s 64th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1074% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1011% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.67% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (3.53% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.67% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (20.75% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 20.02% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (14.16% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.03% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (17.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 7.81% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (13.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.67% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (1.58% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $16,570,823;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $5,025,576;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $3,754,690;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $1,577,870;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $1,200,660;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $931,382;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $716,740;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $368,591;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $367,349;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $328,379.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,612,319;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,554,587;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $455,951;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $282,891;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $278,065.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

The major share of Russian imports from Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.54% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (2.90% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.30% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (3.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.64% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (2.69% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $610,615;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $312,994;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - a decrease of $271,259;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $256,156.
