Russia’s Trade with Spain

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Spain totaled $1,528,055,709, up 18.09% ($234,026,808) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $633,711,705, up 31.05% ($150,148,807) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $894,344,004, up 10.35% ($83,878,001) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $260,632,299, a 20.27% decrease ($66,270,806) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Spain was Russia’s 23rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 26th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.8880% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.8852% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Spain was Russia’s 36th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.5648% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.5665% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Spain was Russia’s 16th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 20th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 1.4937% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.3324% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Spain

The major share of Russian exports to Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 80.30% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (78.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.95% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (10.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.45% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (2.39% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.50% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (5.68% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.24% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (0.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $12,496,087;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $9,001,420;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $8,056,951;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $8,004,176;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,396,011;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $2,515,607;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $2,053,765.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $7,742,860;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $4,626,132;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $3,907,314;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,412,365;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $2,070,721.
