Russia’s Trade with Sudan

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Sudan totaled $111,317,118, up 18.70% ($17,536,248) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $111,239,667, up 18.82% ($17,616,001) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Sudan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $77,451, down 50.73% ($79,753) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Sudan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $111,162,216, a 18.93% increase ($17,695,754) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Sudan was Russia’s 83rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0647% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0642% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Sudan was Russia’s 75th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 70th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0991% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1097% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Sudan was Russia’s 149th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 148th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0001% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0003% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Sudan

The major share of Russian exports to Sudan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 94.49% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (97.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.13% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (0.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.09% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (0.98% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $25,006,398;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $2,184,645;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $735,841.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $10,951,031;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $662,033.
