Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Ghana totaled $55,095,398, up 17.76% ($8,310,031) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $25,411,778, up 4.54% ($1,103,127) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $29,683,620, up 32.06% ($7,206,904) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Ghana went from a surplus of $1,831,935 in the 4th quarter of 2017, to a deficit of $4,271,842 in the 4th quarter of 2018.

Ghana was Russia’s 102nd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0295% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0280% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Ghana was Russia’s 106th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 105th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0204% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0236% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Ghana was Russia’s 86th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 88th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0476% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0350% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.03% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (73.88% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.63% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (5.16% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.30% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (13.42% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.61% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (1.31% in the 4th quarter of 2017);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,733,111;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $683,108;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $239,452;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $145,692;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $77,179.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,737,689;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $757,789;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $229,251;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $123,133.
